i'll be shifting things around concerning my prenatal one-on-one sessions & class times as i have accepted a 10:15am saturday TCX class at my Lifetime location!!!! i am crazy excited about it because i have been holding down the butt-crack-of-dawn shift for a while now....but it is certainly nice to see more new faces, daylight, and teach in a prime time slot. i am so ready to GROW this class and rock out with the members on saturday mornings! yall know i loooove my saturday morning workouts.  so, *a-hem* for all those peeps that never quite made it to my 5:30am classes, now's your chance to give me a try ;)

the child center was hosting a Reindeer Games event for the kiddies, so after class i walked my tykes right over to the party.  look who we ran into! i felt so bad for Mrs. Claus, ha. but i'm sure she has seen and experienced some crazy stuff dealing with young kiddos and all. Dego has not having it,

so this is the only thing i could come up with to make him sit still. #whatevs

i usually don't eat/drink much of anything besides coffee before teaching HIIT, so we had lunch at the Lifetime Cafe before heading out cause ya girl was hoongry.  i refueled with a mediterranean egg white wrap and roasted carrots. so filling!  kids get hunger attitudes just like we do (if not worse) so we all chowed down.  this is why i take breakfast so important now that Chiso is in school! he can't leave the house without it.

later that evening i met up with my hubby, sis-in-love, and a few more friends and family to support my bro-in-love, Brian!  he cleaned UP and won 1st place NPC Physique Open AND NPC Physique Novice.  biiiig congrats to him; what a huge win for the 6 Pack USA team!

after church sunday, we finally headed to see the big tree at the Houston Galleria. Sonny doesn't fancy the word 'tradition' but this is one i'd like to keep going...forever!  we actually had family pictures scheduled but the rain killed our plans....again. this is our last week and chance to take them...ugh.  i have our outfits laid out and everything :( . wish us luck, ha!

"Chiso, do something cool!"

the best out of 87.  enough of this. let's go eat.

for dinner, we went to a place recommended by a friend and client, Frances! True Food Kitchen did not disappoint.

their menu is comprised of the anti-inflammatory food pyramid. my body definitely appreciated that! love this concept and cannot wait to try out...the rest of the menu.

i started with their kale-aid.

then, Sonny and i split their edamame dumplings per Frances' suggestion. they made us anticipate our entreès that much more.

do you see those perfectly cooked shrimp?  *kisses finger tips* BELLISSIMO!!! the Panang Curry was THE STUFF. i usually don't do dairy-based/creamy sauces and/or soups but uuuuuh, the description sounded too good to resist.  i was impressed and elated to report that i did not even bloat afterwards! awesome. Sonny requested half chicken & half shrimp with his, so i told our waiter i wanted the exact same thang.

pizza for the boys!  well, just one boy. Dego was knocked out the entire time, so i fed him at home.

after we went to Pink Berry, lol.  both of our phones were dead by that point, so no fro-yo pics, womp.

my bowl looked a lil' somethin' like this though!  stole this pic from our maui 8th wedding anni trip.

Q:  fit friends! what else is good at True Food Kitchen!? i ran into a friend of mine (owner and CEO of Inner Me Studios, Nicole Phillips) while there and she ordered quinoa pancakes which were NOT on the lunch menu... so of course i looked at her plate like 'what are thoooooose????' bwhahahaha.  have you tried this place?

ok byeeeeee

in addition to solids 2 or 3 times a day, Dego is still requesting the breast 3 times (or more) a day as well.  so yep, breastfeeding is still in full swing over here.  my trainer reminded me that nursing is just like mini workout sessions, which is such an awesome analogy.  breastfeeding has become so routine i have to stop and wonder WHY i'm so hungry in between meals sometimes!  eating more food to keep up with his demands and to keep my supply strong has never been a problem though; i certainly don't mind, haha!  s/n: i should make Chiso park his bike in the garage from now on, wow. sometimes you don't see things in the background until after you take (and post) a pic. whoops. anyway,  i trained a 6 Pack USA client of ours after heading out that day, then hit my gym for some HIIT.

[wpvideo LC9IpcKW]

i've done these two moves separately before, but never together. i'm definitely incorporating this one into my TCX (Total Conditioning Extreme) class!

sooooo, my brother was supposed to hop back on a plane headed to Afghanistan this past saturday (to finish up the last of his contract) but he chose not to. WOO friggin' HOO. it is finished!

PhotoGrid_1427770725868

we had a small family lunch the day before he was supposed to leave with Sonny's younger brother and wife (who is having her first mini me! it's a girl!)!  i admire his decision to stay and i'm elated he will be around to watch his 2nd nephew take his first steps.

we had a birthday party to attend saturday evening!  no surprise there!  they have become our new normal.  i sat in the back seat a lot with my first-born for obvious reasons, but i admit, i have bouts of second child syndrome with Dego every now and then.  hadn't been back there in a while, so it was fun hanging out with him on the way to see The Rat.

20150328_180119_2

even did a mini vlog:

we made eeeeet!

pizza, cake, games, tokens, tickets, kids running around screaming, playing, crying... you know the drill!  Happy 3rd Birthday, Bria!  Sonny went to high school with Bria's father, Mike, and coincidentally, i went to elementary and middle school with his wife, Tashone,  on the opposite side of town. small world. CYMERA_20150329_220434-1

City Centre Gap was having a fantabulous 40% off sale this weekend, so i found this cute grey dress on the final sale rack! i know it's too big but i couldn't pass up the 20 buck price.  my IG friend Alisa suggested i belt it. i agree. i suck at accessorizing.  i have been asked about my sandles a lot too- they are like 3 or 4 years old and from Urban Outfitters.  one of my fave pairs!  can't wear them without a fresh pedi though. Dego's fit is from Baby Gap; there's a camera icon on the front that says 'smile' underneath it. 4 bucks! #HammyMcHamster

20150328_203638_1

Chiso doesn't eat the crusts of his pizza slices (did this child really come from me?!) so i took care of them for him lol.  other than that, no pizza and cake for this girl.  i was speaking to a 6 Pack USA client of ours recently about celebrating the small, daily victories during our ongoing fitness journeys.  she said she went to a get together recently that had WINGS (her fave), cake, and all kinds of good ol' party food, but she stuck to her guns and did not deviate from her meal plan.  she said she didn't even drink the water there lol!!!! BRAVO, Reshema! i get it though. i've been there. i usually eat way more than i plan to in social settings cause usually there is such an abundance of food.  but whenever i pass (cause we always have a choice, right?) or at least exercise some moderation instead of going crazy, i walk outta there feeling like a BOSS. a disciplined boss. and my tummy always appreciates it later. no bloating, no sugar cravings.  we stopped by Whole Foods on the way home and i hit up the hot bar for my dinner. lean grilled herbed chicken, roasted bell peppers, artichokes, and lima beans agreed waaaaay more with my tummy than that pizza and cake would have. take it one day at a time, y'all, and those small victories DO count! may they propel you to keep going and making healthier choices.

all pink everything

my sunday started with the usual breakfast (oat bran pancakes and egg whites) but this was my lunch:

PhotoGrid_1413675077991Weber Kick 'N Chicken grilled chicken breast and veggie stir fry using every fresh veggie i could find: mushrooms, yellow squash, asparagus, and red bell pepper.

i skipped church (but listened to the podcast later) and stayed home to finish getting things ready for my sister Michelle's  baby shower! this was a #sisterssquared production; something my other sis Kara and i like to refer to ourselves as!  as of may 17th of this year she officially became my sister-in-law as well as my Soror.  i had so much fun hosting with her.

cake batter rice crispy treats were requested so cake batter rice crispy treats were made! Sonny brought me back the super-duper jumbo size marshmallows from the store which didn't exactly melt aaaall the way down in the cooking process but i was totally OK with that. why? the clumps of ooey gooey marshmallow in the bars was an awesome touch in my opinion! recipeeeee: (fyi, this is definitely a treat that should be eaten in moderation, guys.)

PhotoGrid_1413748815863

Cake Batter Rice Crispy Treats

the stuff:

  • 5 cups rice crispy cereal (can use brown rice puffed cereal too)
  • 10 oz marshmallows
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dry boxed yellow cake batter
  • 4 tbsp butter (i haven't tried any dairy-free alternatives in place of regular butter yet)
  • 1/4 -1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles

do this:

  1. coat the sides of  a large pot/saucepan as well as the pan you intend to press the rice crispy batter into
  2. melt butter in large pot/saucepan over medium heat
  3. add vanilla
  4. add marshmallows and cover; let melt for 1-2 minutes
  5. add cake batter & sprinkles and stir a few times to incorporate then immediately add cereal and KEEP STIRRING
  6. remove from heat and stir until all combined. be sure to scrape the sides of the pot really good
  7. pour batter into a rectangular or square pan and press down on the batter until even across the top
  8. add more sprinkles
  9. once cool (bout 10 min or so), cut in squares, bars, or however you'd like!

20141019_160354_1who remembers this drink? who still makes this drink lol!? rainbow sherbert and 7 Up (or Sprite, or natural ginger ale). the ugliest, tastiest party drink, ever. it's been a good while since i've had it, whew.

CYMERA_20141019_232044

Kara made the most adorable, pink cupcakes.CYMERA_20141019_232013

and she also got another idea from Pinterest: mini strawberry shortcakes in a glass. aren't they beautiful(bottom right)!? there are cubes of light angel food cake, sliced strawberries, cool whip, and sprankles in there. SO.GOOD.

20141019_160317_1

per Michelle's request: subway sammiches, shrimp fried rice, egg rolls, chicken meat pies, wings, and chips.

20141020_005606_1 happy shower day, Michelle! eviction notice goes into effect in 4 weeks (or less).  aaaand we can't wait to plan your shower, Kara! HAHAHAHAHA

thanks for reading.

Q: what's your favorite, indulgent party food?!

The Color Run 5k - Houston

what.a.BLAST this morning!  this was my first time participating in the The Color Run 5k and imo,  everything was set up perfectly.  because i have a goal of hosting my own 5k one day, i took special note of well, everything.  instead of just showing up to run, i tried my best to pay attention to all the minor details that go into making a 5k (or any distance really) so great, fun, and memorable.  and BOY am i overwhelmed!!! but hey:

dreams

never settle for good, mediocre, or average because you weren't created to do good, mediocre, or average things!

IMG_20130323_184114

packet pickup was at Rei and i had never even been inside the store until then.  there was soooo much Color Run paraphernalia to choose from it's not even funny!  shorts, fanny packs, drawstring back packs, tanks, frisbees, bandanas, socks,

20130324_163303

and sunglasses!

IMG_20130324_135504

pre-race breakfast was an egg-white omelette (with some shredded and melted parmesan cheese that was thrown on top as it cooked), fresh spinach, tomato, and honey mustard on Nature's Own double fiber wheat bread.  no oatmeal this time as it can come back to haunt ya real quick if you know what i mean, especially on longer runs.  no pun intended. L O L.   however 5k's are over rather quickly.

20130324_084028

that's my sweet, fab, supportive friend Kara!

our driver (Sonny) so graciously snapped some pics of us right after we jumped outta the truck and headed to the start line.

20130324_085037

i met up with more great friends on our way to the start line- hey Roberto, Ana, and Kara's fingers! *waving*

20130324_084849

i had NO idea how popular this run was!!!  our team was set for takeoff at 9am, but we didn't make it all the way to the front as it was just too crowded.  to avoid so many people on the course at once, they created several 'waves' and our start time was unexpectedly pushed back more than a little bit.  this was terrible because somebody had to drive back across town to teach class in less than 2 hours. yep....me. when i signed up for the race i was so excited about participating i forgot about my class!!!! pushing it, yes, but i knew both could be done.  i can't and won't let my members down. or waste 50 bucks

20130324_090651

i heard somebody was not feelin' the weather change this morning. it dropped to around 50 degrees outta no where.

20130324_094900

but we finished strong. it was bob and weave, stop and go the entire way. this was the first untimed race i've ever participated in and it was a true fun run with an emphasis on fun! people were clearly not concerned with breaking any PR's lol.   it's a huge, family and friends type event for sure, and i DEFINITELY recommend this race for anybody's very first 5k.

20130324_095054

the Fit Foodies meant business though! we turned on our heart rate monitors and did our thing. Kara and i pretty much have the same running pace, so we started and finished together.

20130324_095220

Kind Bars! i see these guys in Whole Foods all the time and they look scrumptious, right? they were giving out these two flavors and OH BOY...

20130324_103718

this peanut butter and strawberry flavor was uhhhmazing. tasted like a sticky, chewy, pb and jelly bar sammich.  these are the only samples i could get my hands on before having to head out.

PhotoGrid_1364163840988

going and coming, literally. i missed out on tons of pictures and good ol' fashioned color fun and could not stay to meet up with and party with the other runners at all:(  you live and you learn. this was our first Fit Foodies event and we have only just begun to scratch the surface.  so seriously,  NO WORRIES if you weren't able to make it this morning, there are too many races coming up to dwell on one!  just know that plenty of advanced noticed will be provided next time, you have my word.

20130324_122649_1

we sped across town and made it just in time.  did i shower first? heck no! i didn't have time anyway! 1 hour of total conditioning and a family shoulder workout later,

(alternating punches with dumbbells for 1 minute straight w/ Kara, my bro Brian, my hubby, and i )

20130324_125813

TOAST was not the word.

i'm gonna put this in the side bar over there, but the Green 6.2 will be held on April 27th, 2013. that's next month yall! email me if you'd like to run with the Fit Foodies team. the earlier you register, the cheaper the price.  set a goal and let's go for it, together.  le@fitfoodiele.com

wfraspberry

alright...had this dressing tonight and it's  definitely gonna be added to the FFL approved list!  Walden Farms Raspberry Vinaigrette.  it's great as a salad dressing, but i'm positive it would work as a marinade for fish or chicken too.  try it! i like.
